The Sower Leads Us
She came barreling up the drive, put it in park and opened the door for the two older kids to unbuckle and climb out. She grabbed the baby and settled him on her hip then went to the back of the car and pulled out a bag of seed.
It was grass seed that is supposed to grow under shade trees.
After ripping it open, she began to throw seed all over the hard, barren, draught stricken dirt. We hadn’t had rain in weeks and we were experiencing one of the hottest summers on record. The momma in me wanted to encourage her to wait until we had a little rain, but I could tell she was on a mission.
That hot afternoon I had no idea the importance of that mission.
About a week later we were on the phone and she was telling me things she was crying out to Jesus for and she paused with tears and said, “and for the grass to grow!!!!”
As soon as I hit the red button on my phone I jumped up and went outside to water that grass. Now I was on a mission. There was no way I would let that grass die.
The Lord had been ministering to her through Andrew Peterson’s song called The Sower’s Song.
Oh God, I am furrowed like the field
Torn open like the dirt
And I know that to be healed
That I must be broken first
I am aching for the yield
That You will harvest from this hurt.
He had also been ministering to her by constantly placing Isaiah 55:12-13 in front of her, a beautiful promise of His redemption.
“For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and shall make a name for the Lord, an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”
Imagine my surprise when a few days later I was going to let the chickens out to play and I caught a glimpse of green under those big live oaks. Not just a few sprigs either. A carpet of green. It wasn’t a plush carpet but there was definitely enough to be picture worthy. I wasn’t hearing in the spiritual realm that day, but I guarantee you that those mighty oaks were clapping.
He goes before you. When you are in the darkest pit believing there is no way out, He has already gone before you. He will harvest from your hurt. Rip open the bag and throw the seed, no matter what logic tells you. No matter what logic the world tells you.
Let the Sower lead you.
